
The Ministry of Finance received the courtesy visit from the Starkist Director and senior management team, who are in Samoa from 19 January 2026. The visit forms part of their engagement with the new Government, including Cabinet Ministers with portfolios connected to labour mobility and workforce development.
Led by Director Mr. Ha, the delegation also includes Mr. Tufuga Faafoi - Senior Manager, Ms. Laosamoa Poasa - HR Manager, and Samoa’s Consul General in American Samoa, Fata Brian Kaio.
The Minister of Finance, Hon. Mulipola Anarosa Ale Molio’o acknowledged StarKist’s long-standing contribution to employment opportunities for Samoan workers and explored ways to strengthen collaboration on:
-Fair and decent work standards for Samoan workers
-District-based recruitment aligned with Samoa’s labour mobility policy
-Skills development pathways to ensure Samoan workers return with certified skills
-Safety, housing, and welfare arrangements for Samoan seasonal workers
-Local supplier and private-sector linkages supporting Samoa’s MSMEs
-Data transparency and joint monitoring to support continuous improvement
The Government welcomes opportunities that create quality jobs, build skills, and support families—while ensuring worker welfare and ethical recruitment remain at the centre of all labour mobility partnerships.
